About
The Maunga Tipu Difference
-

Garden to Plate Experience
Mature landscaped gardens for wandering, an abundant organic vegetable garden, fresh eggs from the hens, and an outdoor kitchen, BBQ and firepit surrounded by mountain views. A culinary experience that's genuinely garden-to-table — only at Maunga Tipu in Fiordland.
-

Friendly Farm Animals
Say hello to the resident farm animals — a small taste of authentic rural New Zealand life, right on your doorstep.
-

Thoughtfully Designed
Natural materials, considered details, and a super king bed facing the mountains. Every element of the studio has been designed to feel calm, warm, and quietly luxurious. Meander through the landscaped gardens and absorb the visual feast for the eyes and soul.
The Location
Maunga Tipu is located in Fiordland, southwest New Zealand — just 8 minutes from Manapouri and the Doubtful Sound departure wharf, 15 minutes from the Kepler Track, and 20 minutes from Te Anau, the gateway to Milford Sound. A peaceful retreat, well positioned for exploring some of New Zealand's most iconic landscapes.
Sustainability
Maunga Tipu is designed to tread lightly on one of New Zealand's most precious landscapes. Solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall provide renewable energy throughout your stay — with excess power returned to the grid. Pure rainwater collected from the roof supplies fresh drinking water, and all wastewater is managed on-site.
Garden waste is composted back into the organic garden, rubbish is carefully recycled, and every decision about the property has been made with the surrounding Fiordland environment in mind.
Your Host
Maunga Tipu was born from a deep love of this land and snow capped mountains — and a belief that the best way to experience Fiordland is slowly, and with intention.
Tracey has poured that philosophy into every aspect of Maunga Tipu — a commitment to sustainable, resilient living that shapes everything from the solar-powered studio and organic vegetable garden to the outdoor bath and sauna positioned to soak up the panoramic mountains.
For Tracey, creating Maunga Tipu wasn't about building just another holiday rental. It was about offering guests something rarer — a genuine connection to the landscape, and the quieter pace that makes Fiordland so special.
