Arrival and Check-In

Check-in is available from 2PM. Please use the entry instructions provided before arrival. If you are arriving late, take care when entering and keep noise to a minimum out of respect for neighbours.

  • Access method: Keypad

  • Entry code: hold hand on the black section above door handle to awaken the security panel then enter code 3030#

  • Parking location: Please park in front of garage door marked “Guest Parking”

  • Lights on arrival: The outside Studio light will be left on if you are arriving after dark. Please turn light off after you have settled into the studio.

Studio Comforts

Maunga Tipu Studio has been prepared so you can relax, recharge, and enjoy a simple, comfortable stay connected to nature. You will find the essentials for sleeping, dining, and unwinding in the studio.

  • Fresh flax linen and towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided

  • USB port available beside bed for charging your devices

  • A small desk for your laptop

  • Some pantry goods and kitchen items are available for light meals, are in draw below dishwasher, on shelf above sink and in the fridge.

  • Please keep windows and doors closed when leaving the studio as the weather in Fiordland can have 4 seasons in one day

  • If something is not working as expected or you require assistance, please let Tracey know

Sauna

  • To turn the sauna on - click on the power button in the middle of the sauna control unit to the left of the sauna door. Note the sauna is set to 100 degrees but will not reach this temperature and there is no need to adjust. There is a thermometer in the sauna to see the true temperature

  • Please read the safety instructions on the wall near the sauna control unit

  • There are lights in the sauna, switch is on the sauna control unit and marked with a light globe icon.

  • The sauna takes about 20 minutes to warm up

  • Please use grey towels in the sauna and outside shower and bath

  • Please use one of towels to sit on in the sauna

  • When pouring water over hot coals please use no more than half a ladle at a time and pour over slowly to reduce slashing hot water upon yourself

  • Please do not place anything on the hot coals in the sauna

  • PLEASE TURN THE SAUNA AND LIGHTS OFF WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED YOUR SAUNA

Outside Shower, Bath, BBQ and Chairs

  • Please note the hot water takes a little while to come through from the other side of the Studio.

  • Please use the grey towels for the outside shower and bath

  • For safety there are plastic wine glasses on the shelf above the kitchen sink for use outside just in case the wind blew over your glass into the bathtub

  • The Bath Salts gift for you on your bed are for the outside bath and are made from

  • Natural Ingredients-Epsom Salts, Himalayan Salts and essential oils. You can use the bag as a tea bag for your bath or you can empty the contents directly into your bath

  • The outside chairs may or may not have a cover on them dependant on the weather when you arrive. The covers and clamps are under the chairs so they do not blow away.

  • If you would like dry chairs the next morning to sit upon and have your morning coffee It is best if you cover the chairs when you have finished sitting outside as the dew & rain in the Fiordland can be heavy and often accompanied by wind.

  • To operate the BBQ turn the gas on at the gas bottle first then ignite the BBQ with the starter.

  • If it is windy when you are BBQing we suggest closing the lid this will help the heat to remain in the BBQ to cook your meal.

Outside Kitchen & Fire Pit

The outside kitchen and fire pit is for those beautiful evenings where you just want to soak up more mountains and rural views and be a part of nature.

  • Please turn on the gas at the bottle to use the gas hob

  • There is firewood under the outside kitchen for the fire pit and fire starters and matches under the outside kitchen sink

  • There are pots, pans and utensils under the outside kitchen sink and a few pantry staples

  • When you have finished with the fire pit please return the cover over the fire pit so there are no stray embers if the wind whips up

Landscaped Gardens, Vegetable Garden and Fresh Eggs

The landscaped gardens are for you to enjoy, feel free to stroll around and soak up the colours, the visual feist and the panoramic mountains with their many layers.

The vegetable garden is for harvesting seasonally available fresh vegetables and herbs for your meals whilst here at Maunga Tipu.

We understand that some guests may prefer to enjoy a protein-rich meal during their stay. If you find yourself in need of meat, chicken, or fish, and do not want to go to the supermarket please inquire with Tracey who will have these available in the freezer for purchase to enhance your dining experience!

  • To help with your vegetable selections we have labelled the vegetables and herbs, and vegetables which are ready to eat have a “pick me now” label

  • Please just pick what you need for your salad or culinary creation

  • Outside the chicken coop there is a small box on the chicken coop wall, if you lift the lid you will find freshly laid eggs for your meal creation

Wi-Fi and Entertainment

Unlimited Wi-Fi is available for guest use. Please use it responsibly and avoid unlawful downloads or activity.

Kitchen and Dining

Please enjoy the kitchen facilities for light meals, hot drinks, and snacks or when the weather is not favourable to cook outside at the BBQ, outside kitchen or fire pit. To ensure a pleasant atmosphere for all our guests, we kindly ask that any meals with strong odours be prepared outside the Studio. This helps maintain a comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for your understanding.

  • A selection of coffees, teas and hot chocolate on shelf behind jug and toaster

  • Cooking appliances: There is an induction cooktop in the bottom draw of the kitchen, frypan and saucepans, rice cooker and slow cooker under the sink, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine

  • There is a salad bowl and serving platters above the microwave

Heating, Cooling, and Ventilation

Please use heating, cooling, and ventilation safely and efficiently. If using the heat pump, heater, please switch it off when leaving the studio.

  • Heating & Cooling instructions: The Daiken air conditioner/heat pump is available for heating and cooling the Studio. Push the power icon on the Daiken remote located on the coffee table and set to your desired temperature

  • Window ventilation: The sliding doors assist in cooling the studio in summer please use sliding screens on these doors to assist in keeping flies and little critters out of the Studio.

  • Extra blanket & Firm/Soft pillows are located in the wardrobe

  • An Electric Blanket is available on your bed and controller is down the side of your bed

Bathroom

Fresh towels and basic bathroom supplies are provided. Please use water mindfully and let the host know if anything needs replenishing.

  • Spare towels: Located in wardrobe - white towels for bathroom and grey towe for sauna

  • Grey towels for sauna are located in the sauna

  • Toiletries: There are some spare basic toiletries located in bathroom draw in cas you may have forgotten some items

  • Please only flush toilet paper as Maunga Tipu is on a septic system and cannot handle feminine products (please wrap in toilet paper and place feminine products in rubbish bin in bathroom)

  • There are Toilet Drops on the back of the toilet for air freshness, please use a couple of drops in the toilet bowl when required

  • If there is no hot water please contact us to switch hot water to new cylinder

House Rules

These house rules help protect the Studio and ensure a comfortable experience for every guest.

  • If you are arriving late we will leave the outside light on for your ease of entry and could you please turn the outside light off when you have settled into the Studio

  • Please remove muddy or wet footwear before entering the studio

  • To ensure a pleasant atmosphere for all guests, we kindly ask that any meals with strong odours be prepared outside the bed and breakfast. This helps maintain a comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Please close windows and doors and turn off heaters, fireplace and electric blankets when you leave as Fiordland can have 4 seasons in 1 day.

  • Guest pets are not allowed but please note Molly the dog lives here and is our shadow

  • No smoking, vaping, or e-cigarettes inside the studio

  • No parties, events, or unregistered overnight guests

Please help us care for the environment by separating rubbish and recycling correctly.

Check-Out

Check-out is by 10AM (unless later checkout time arranged in advance). Before you leave, please complete the steps below so the Studio is ready for cleaning and the next guests.

  1. Turn off heaters, electric blankets, appliances, and lights.

  2. Please place used dishes in dishwasher and turn on, dishwasher tablets under sink

  3. Place rubbish in front bin under sink and recycling in the back bin under sink

  4. Check you have all personal belongings

  5. Close windows and doors as Fiordland can have 4 seasons in 1 day
